Costa Mesa 60th Anniversary

This year, the city of Costa Mesa celebrates its 60th anniversary. Once known as Harper, Costa Mesa was officially accepted into the fold of Orange County in 1953 (although the name change TO Costa Mesa took place in 1920). Costa Mesa quickly established itself as the go-to city in Orange County for arts, fine dining, and shopping, soon earning the nickname City of Arts. And for a lady (is a city a lady? Let’s just say yes) of 60, can we just say how absolutely fabulous she still is?

The city of Costa Mesa is tapping into that source of awesome with an Anniversary Celebration going on from June 28th-30th, conveniently called “60 & Fabulous.” The celebration will showcase the very best that Costa Mesa has to offer such as concerts, an artwalk, food events like “tastefest” and “chef of the fest,” historical info, children’s activities, a classic car show and more. Music lovers ESPECIALLY will be in heaven during the weekend as the concerts will feature musical artists from a variety of genres – rock, indie, DJ’s, etc. And if you are able to haul your mind all the way back to the 80’s and the Tom Cruise of Top Gun, your sense of nostalgia will thank you as one of the artists featured will be Berlin! Take my breath away indeed! For a complete set list and more info, click here. You can purchase your tickets here.

The city of Costa Mesa is doing its utmost to tap into the creativity of all residents and visitors (artistic expression is the name of the game in this city) and is also holding a video contest where entrants have the chance to create a unique, 30-90 second video and possibly win $2,500. We don’t know a better way to celebrate than with a little bit of creativity and some awesome cash to go along with it. Details are here.

Ayres Hotels of Southern California has been a proud partner with the City of Costa Mesa since the 1980’s, so we are absolutely thrilled to wish this beautiful and singular place a very happy 60th birthday. 60 years is nothing to sniffle at, so we invite you all to come out and help us celebrate!

**Just a heads up that Fair Drive will be pedestrian only during this event as all parts of the celebration are being held at City Hall and on Fair Drive.

We have not spent much time in Costa Mesa, so I do not know the events, but we have spent lots of time at Balboa and Newport beach. After reading this we would love to spend some time in Costa Mesa, the festival and everything sounds like a wonderful time! We love music!

I’ve not been to an event in Orange County. But my favorite
summer event is our Anniverasary. We will be married in July, half of
    Costa Mesa’s age.
    Happy 60th Costa Mesa
    And Happy 30th to us.

My favorite summer event is the Orange County Fair, my Papa used to live right next to the fairgrounds and every summer I would spend several days at the fair and would celebrate my birthday there since it starts every year on the week of my birthday. I live in Vegas now and still drive to the fair every summer as part of my birthday celebration.

Our son goes to UCIrvine and we live in N. CA but have stayed at the Costa Mesa Ayres twice. If I were to say what I think would be my favorite event, it would be the weekend concerts of music. Sounds like fun! Will have to come down sometime for this anniversary event.

My husband and I love to attend concerts in the park in my home town. We now live too far away to attend every week, but when we have the chance we really enjoy it!

We love the Feast of Laterns in Pacific Grove, Ca. Having grown up on the Monterey Peninsula it brings back fond memories of my childhood that I pass along to my children. From the pet parade to the finale of fireworks it is truly small town USA personified. We look forward to it every July.

My favorite Summer Festival has to be the Feast of Lanterns in Pacific Grove, California. Having grown up on the Monterey Peninsula, going every year always brings back fond childhood memories that I now share with my own children. From the Pet Parade down Main Street, to the nightly concerts of local bands, to the Fireworks Finale on the last day, this truly is small town USA personified. I look forward to going back every July.
