On March 24th, 2012 at the Grove of Anaheim, the Assistance League of Newport-Mesa will host Dancing for Tomorrow’s Stars, a spectacular evening featuring dinner and a ballroom dancing competition meant to raise funds for the Assistance League of Newport-Mesa’s various philanthropic programs. This annual event celebrates Orange County culture and entertainment, featuring community leaders paired with professional ballroom dancers.
Founded in 1919, the Assistance League was the first non-sectarian, non-profit, and non-political organization in the West to utilize volunteers to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate. Today, the Assistance League has over 26,000 members and in a single year (2010-2011) returned over $37.7 million dollars to various community-based philanthropic programs. The Newport-Mesa chapter of the Assistance League has continued this tradition of giving since 1940, supporting various programs through proceeds from a year-round Thrift Shop and Treasures on Consignment Store, grants and fundraising events such as Dancing for Tomorrow’s Stars.
The glamorous event is chaired by Mrs. Jill Ayres and will feature celebrity dancers Ashley Hickson, Sara Guggenheim Jarrett, Brett Lawrence, Heidi Miller, Adam Aldrich, and Mike Sanchez. Their moves and grooves will be judged by sports agent and attorney Leigh Steinberg, television personality and local philanthropist Mindy Stearns, and member of the American Ballet and English National Ballet Christina Lyons, among others. Voting takes place before and during the event, and the dancing team with the most votes at the conclusion of the evening wins the competition.
Proceeds will benefit a variety of children and families in the Newport-Mesa area through programs such as the Cheri Harris Children’s Dental Health Center, Operation School Bell, Kids on the Block, and Community Outreach Program.
